Hair Randomness

Yes, Hair Randomness.

I often make up my own words so if you are reading, please excuse my English. So my hair randomness today is more like some new gained knowledge with questions that you as a reader can possibly give me some insight.

I was chatting with a good friend of mine about, you guessed it, hair. We talked about coloring, trimming ends, my dusty brown hair (1B is what they call it, but dusty is what I call it), styling tools, ways to whiten your teeth, and my new blush, as well as BFV (Braxton Family Values) as well as textlaxing, Its an under-processed relaxer, you dont work it or comb it through to get your bone straight, you simply put it on there and what my Mom's stylist say, "play chemist". Textlaxing is still intriguing to me, you put a chemical on your curly hair to relax the curl and not straighten it. Ok I have been victim of the popular Textlaxer, but I never knew that was what I was doing. I just thought I didn't get my hair straight enough or that it didnt take and then I'd wait to do a correction. Now that I know what it is I have been doing this all along and just straightening what was left with heat tools for the straightest look I could get. I loved my hair straight but I adore my the thickness I have after week four from a relaxer.

The styling tools we talked about were the Splitender and the EdgeStick, now, let me say this again I'm a novice on hair care and this is all a current experiment on proper hair care, I'm not paid from these product producers or given anything from them in regards to the products I mention in my blog, these are my thoughts and results from the products I purchase with my own funds.

Now those two tools mentioned, sparked my interest because one, I'm relaxed and two, I stretch my relaxer out to 10 weeks tops. I know, I should try for longer but I didn't because I was using heat tools, my flat iron and hand blow dryer. I know Youch! I took the challenge of using one heat source which was the hooded dryer, I can tell you my hair did not like that one bit, I was frizzed and fluffy, even with serums applied. I really don't like serums unless i'm flat ironing straight. Well since I'm on a break from my heat tools I was thinking, "my edges look so rougher than a mug!" I google'd this morning with "edges or hair" and "touch up", up came the EdgeStick. "What's that" you say, well its essentially a pressing comb that you can use to get super close to your edges to straighten them during the time you are not able to relax your hair. Would I use it, after seeing the Videos on You-tube, no I wouldn't use it, I'll tell you why.

number one it cost 80.00 dollars, do I really want to pay that much for a heat tool that only is for the edges of my hair? While it seems tantalizing to invest I think I will pass on it, only because I can get the same results with a scarf wet-set or some edge control from ORS (organic root stimulator) seriously plus save my money, time and effort for my growth progress.

The Splitender, well I would really like to try this particular gadget, I love gadgets by the way. I told my friend that I don't trust myself with scissors, why is that you may ask? I'm afraid I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to dusting no matter how many you-tube videos I see, I get afraid because I may cut too much off or I might not cut enough off. I might even cause more damage than what I thought I would because I wouldn't be able to get all of the hair that I am supposed to trim.sSo I will be buying this item and using it during my hair care routine.

I guess that's why they call it a journey huh?

So, I'm ordering that today.

We also talked about color. I know color is supposed to be very un-healthy for the hair. but I miss my red hair at times. I remember when I first got into some hair color. My Aunt who happens to be a licensed pro did the color for me as a graduation gift when I visited her in California. I was nice and vibrant, I miss that color and it was only the front of my hair. I do believe I'm going to color it after this sew-in is over and done with. I'll get to the sew-in in a minute. but I will be doing my front in red in the future.Because I like to change up my hair ever so often, I even learned that I get bored with styles quickly.

So, my sew-in, I have it because I wanted it and wanted to challenge myself, however it has some down sides to it, more downs than I expected. I like to feel my scalp, its a sort of comfort to me to able to feel my scalp, call it what you want but I've resolved to take down my Sew-in this weekend. Here is my statement of justification: I'm still itching! yep in spite of moisturizing and sealing and spraying my scalp, not the weave, it still itches. So I will be doing a take down Saturday after all my days events are done.

The Sew-in has given me more issues than a lil bit and while I have an aspiration to color my hair, I take this as a lesson learned, No More Sew-in's for me. And I will be Deep conditioning for a long time since I found Neutrogena's Triple Moisture Deep Conditioner and Roux Porosity Control Conditioner. LOVE IT for deep conditioner. That is one thing that I found out, you can almost never go wrong with a conditioner, they are the most flexible product you can purchase for hair care/hair journeys.

Those two mentioned alone have done wonders to my hair before I got my sew in, and I do, respect the people who wear them all the time, but I won't be one of them any longer. gonna find my way back to my roots, pun intended, but really just healthy relaxed roots, can I even say healthy relaxed roots????

Oh for you Make-up lovers I got Sephora Goodies this week, they have a 500 perk point goodie bag, filled with primers, brow-gel, and conceler, if you like make up you will love this goodie bag they have available for perk points trade in, I finally used some of them. :)

The Stila Blush I got, I use as an all over blush its also a grab for 14 dollars at Sephora its called "love at first blush"

Product/Tool Review: Tangle Teezer

The tool is basically just that, it takes out the tangles in the hair. Like i said in my welcome message, I'm no hair guru.

This is the one that I have. I have to say that I actually really love this tool in my new arsenal of hair tools. I have currently a Sew-in, as i mentioned in my welcome message last night, I was untangling the hair I have sewn-in. I was at a loss when i found out that I have a kanekalon, but rather the chemical that the hair is coated in. I washed it in the shower as recommended by the hair goddesses. (ulovemegz, EbonyCprincess and Buildablebeauty) I even did twist in the wet wavy remy that I had installed, however, one day down when sleeping is when the snarle begin.

Ok, so I've had a couple of sew-in's before, I've even manged two months at maximum, but this time I was completely irritated by it. I don't know if its the actual hair that i have or my lack of weave care knowledge, I ran to YouTube to learn more about what I should be doing to care for my hair. When I say this I mean it, i'm a complete hair novice, yes I'll admit I'm a hair novice. My hair weaves were always tangled up to the point where I was no longer loving my curly-cue hair or waves. I really wanted to take every last one of the sew-in's that I've had down after the first week. So why do this again you ask? to challenge my self and my relaxer stretch.

So I let the hair get tangled beyond recognition, well not that bad, but bad enough to drive someone crazy that knows better. After my wash I slept on my hair un-wrapped and un-twisted. for the hair novice, those are huge and I mean HUGE MISTAKES TO DO WITH A SEW-IN. After two days I went about life and realized that my hair was horrible no matter how much finger combing I was doing it still had horrible tangles.

I then remembered all my trips to Sally's Beauty Supply and the Tangle Teaser, I initially bought this tool to help with my daughters natural hair when de-tangling her hair after washes.and you know natural hair can be unruly at times. I had still had not used it on her hair, I reached for the Tangle Teezer that I bought in one of the many bags I had in my bathroom. I embarked on un-traveled territory with the rescue of my sew-in and attempt to rescue it from the tangles and try to not cut out the knots.

I was brushing in my hand and it then took the knot and tangle out completely! I was way too excited about it and then went on to doing the worse section, the nape of the sew-in, it took all but one knot out I had to cut it. However, the Tangle Teezer is going to be a staple in my household to rescue hair tangles and tragedies. Would I recommend this tool to others. Yes. Why? because it really does what was intended to do, if you have long hair or APL (arm pit length) hair that gets unruly or if you let it go one day from being lazy, you will need this to help out and maintain the hair.

And its kept me from taking down my sew-in after the first week of hair hardship :)

First of all let me say, Welcome!

I'm not a guru of hair nor am I trying to become one, but I'm making this blog for accountability. That being said I can take all comments about hair and products, and that's because I'm a product junkie. What can I say? I'm fresh starting out on this walk.

So, let me give you a bit of background. I have been relaxing since I was 6 or 7 years old and I practically begged my Mom to get a PCJ (Pressing Comb in a Jar). I never appreciated kinky curls until later in life when I started to learn hair and the different styles.

I loved to change up my tresses mostly to fit iin or be on the popular kids list of friends. No, I was by far one of those popular kids. However I was cool with almost everyone I met.
I met a group of girls with what people call "good hair", let's face it we all have met those groups of girls and they often questioned me about my hair and what types of care I did on the daily. I envied them, they had hair they didn't have to do anything to but wash and go, oh and the occassional flat iron. I had to work my hair.

I never had a hair regimine or schedule my Mom took care of that for me. Until I had gotten a job, all I knew was wash and set every other week and relaxers on scheduled times as well as cuts. (Not trims) One stylist even cut, no shaved my sideburns off and now they grow crazy which results in daily care.
But I digress, I'm no hair guru like, ulovemegz or buildablebeauty or Ebonycprincess. I love hearing about their hair journey. So it inspired me to take a stance on caring and learning about hair and how to properly care for it.

No one had ever taken the time out to tell me, you have to do x-y-z before a-b-c happens to your hair. Well I'm taking responsibilty and accountability for my hair-ducation and embarking in new very unknown territory. To start off I got a sew-in as my no manipulation style. Ok ok ok, I know what you are saying, why did you start with such a hard style. Well I've done them before but not with this new knowledge I've gained watching the hair goddesses mentioned.

I did deep condition at least before I got it braided. Now what I didn't know was my kanekalon allergy. I looked to my facebook for answers there was none for a while. Then all of a sudden, POW! There was "naturally curly" I think that's her page name, she spoke on "the ingredient of the day" which was apple cide vinegar.

Goes to show you what this college grad really knew, I knew nothing about this magical mixture, so the itchies came come the sewn-in braids and it was wash day. I got an applicator bottle and did a 50/50 mix of water and apple cider vinegar. And an couple of days past the itches subsided just a bit. I still get itchies but now I'm dealing with unruly tangles.

Guess what product I'm using for that, the "tangle teaser". Its actually working I'm un tangleing as I post. I'm taking a breaks to blog. But it actually works, it takes some time but its worth it. I think this. Might work for those who do u-part wigs that are sewn on, or any wig for that matter.
Well I have to end this blog post with Thank you for reading...I guess I should do a product review soon.

Nah, I'll just post what happens with pictures...

Xoxo
